The Story
— biocole davis is an upright bassist and composer based in new york. he trained at juilliard — one of the youngest musicians ever admitted to its artist diploma and master's programs at once — studied at berklee, and came up on the city's bandstands.
he has spent the years since as the foundation under other people's records, on sessions and releases from bon iver to dua saleh, lambchop, elliott moss, and bobby mcferrin — the player you've heard without knowing the name.
as a leader he records his own music and writes for everything from solo bass to full big band, with recognition from the nea, bmi, and ascap. a yamaha artist and a student of ron carter, he brings that lineage into every lesson and clinic.
he has taught bassists around the world — in private lessons, university masterclasses, and through better bass lessons — with a philosophy built on simplifying the instrument so the music can come through.
